The Day before the Trek - Wednesday 04 August 2004

Manhattan Beach
Jon's First Day in LA. After grabbing something to eat across the road from the Hacienda Hotel, Jon decided to take a trip to Manhattan Beach.

LA to Marina Dunes - Thursday 05 August 2004

Hollywood
The morning of the first day of the trek was spent in Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

The Pacific Coast
After spending the morning in Hollywood we drove to Santa Barbara where we stopped for lunch. After lunch we headed north along the pacific coast stopping at San Simeon to watch some Sea Otters fighting!

Marina Dunes
The first night was spent camping at Marina Dunes RV Park. After a few of us went shopping for food (and beer) we had a campfire on the beach.

San Francisco Day 1 - Friday 06 August 2004

San Francisco Arrival
Upon arriving in San Francisco we headed to Alamo square to take pictures of the famous Victorian "Painted Ladies" (Postcard Row). After that we spent a few hours at Haight-Ashbury.

Our walk across the famous Golden Gate bridge.

Walk around San Francisco
The afternoon was spent exploring the city of San Francisco including places such as China town and Pier 39 in Fisherman's Warf.

In the evening we took a sunset cruise around the San Francisco bay on a catamaran.

A few of us experienced some of the nightlife San Francisco has to offer. We spent most of the night in a bar called the Red Room.

The road trip to Vegas! Passing through Death Valley and watching fighter jets practicing at the Nevada test site.

Arrival in Vegas
After arriving in Vegas we explored the area. Jon, James and Brent went on the Rollercoaster at New York, New York. Then we headed to the Luxor for the huge buffet!

Road Trip to Grand Canyon
Escaping Vegas just in time before another storm we hit the road and headed towards the Grand Canyon. For a brief time we travelled along part of Route 66.

The Grand Canyon Trek
Our earliest morning of the whole trek. We got up at 5am to be ready to watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon and then begin our trek.

After leaving the Grand Canyon we headed through the Arizona desert. Eventually we ended up at a Cowboy Ranch in the absolute middle of nowhere!

After quite an eventful night involving quite a bit of alcohol we set off on one of the longest road trips yet, to San Diego.

After setting up camp we headed to a baseball game in San Diego. The San Diego Padres against the Atlanta Braves.

SeaWorld San Diego
Some of the group took a visit to SeaWorld Adventure Park and then to the Beach at San Diego.

Tijuana
A few of us decided to go to Mexico for the day. We took the metro to the border and crossed into Tijuana for what was to be quite an eye-opening experience.

On our drive into San Diego for the evening we spotted an incredible thunder cloud.

The Last Supper
Our last meal out of the trip. With quite a lot of money left over from the food kitty we decided to go to a nice restaurant.

Disneyland
Most of the day was spent at Disneyland in Anaheim.

The Last Night
After returning to the Hacienda hotel we got something to eat and then had to say goodbye to some of the group. The remainder of us went to a bar down the road for a few farewell drinks.
